Member Organisations & Accredited register membership
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into several membership categories, such as:
- Individual Member
- Registered Member MBACP
- Registered Member MBACP (Accred)
Each membership category signifies a different level of training and experience. Members with the designations MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) have achieved a substantial level of training and experience, as approved by the Association.
Registered members are listed on the BACP Register, which was the first register to be awarded Accredited Voluntary Register status by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and begun practising. However, they will not appear on the BACP Register until they progress to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a strict Code of Ethics & Practice and a robust Complaints Procedure. The Association is fully accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

The Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was established in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) to recognise organisations that maintain voluntary registers meeting specific standards set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated their inclusion on an Accredited Register, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining professional standards and ethical practices.
